C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy adapts to DepEd’s new Three-term School Calendar

C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy, Inc., demonstrate its commitment to educational excellence and regulatory compliance during the implementation of the Department of Education’s new three-term school calendar for the School Year 2026-2027 last June 8.

The shift from the traditional four-quarter setup to three structured terms aims to protect instructional time, streamline grading cycles, and ensure uninterrupted learning across grade levels.

“That’s the benefit of the three-term calendar, because it gives more emphasis to the academics of the students with less of the school activities”, said Raymark Bigcas, Principal of C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy, Inc..

Despite the major adjustments, administrators at C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy came prepared, emphasizing swift action and administrative clarity to ensure a smooth transition and keep parents informed well in advance.

As with any major systemic change, the first term brought a learning curve for both learners and educators, as school leaders observed that students felt initially overwhelmed by the new pace, while teachers worked to refine and adapt to the changes.

"It's an overwhelming first term for them because of the new adjustments. I think they have to embrace those rules that we really need to follow so that we get to adapt to what society requires us to do. We are also doing this so that it will not be difficult for the school and the learners,” Bigcas added.

When it comes to the school activities and competition, the three-term school calendar offers a refreshing start in balancing extracurricular commitment with academic expectations.

“The three-term calendar provides us with a more balanced and manageable schedule, especially with the extracurricular activities that previously conflicted with the academic and class hours of the learners," Christian Dela Cruz, Assistant School Principal, expressed.

Teachers also made significant adjustments inside the classroom, as the transition to the new format requires recalibrating teaching resources to match the DepEd’s revised Budget of Work (BOW).

"For preparing the three-term system, I think the most challenging part is finding sources. The books that we have to follow the competencies last school year and seeing the BOW presented by DepEd for the three-term, it is now different. So for us teachers, we have to find sources that sync with the new competencies, especially in Math,” shared Aira Bigcas, a Junior High School Teacher.

Despite the changes, the administration, teachers, parents, and students continue to work hand-in-hand to adapt to the changing educational landscape at C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy.

By adopting the DepEd mandate, C.H.I.L.D.’S Academy lays a solid foundation for uninterrupted instruction, setting a proactive example for private basic education institutions adapting to national learning reforms.
